Remember the gloom last winter in the UK. Schools were closed, cars stuck on the drive, untreated roads turning much of the country into a skating rink. Well, why not do something about it this time round? Here's a couple of marvellous holiday destinations that will more than whet your appetite.

Antigua

Stingray City shouldn`t be missed either; go out on a boat and swim with the stingrays before heading back to the peace and quiet that makes this island so special.

Interlaken 

Head for Switzerland where everything works in the winter, not just the watches. Interlaken lies between Lakes Thun and Brienz in the stunning Bernese Oberland area of the Swiss Alps and boasts magnificent views, particularly of the Jungfrau Mountain which dominates the landscape. It’s a popular destination all year round, but comes to life in the winter as only such a place can. For those of you old enough, you may remember Interlaken as one of the venues regularly shown on Ski Sunday. But it’s not just for the professionals. A free ski bus will take you to one of three Jungfrau ski areas and there’s also mountain railways, cable cars and for the more adventurous a chance to have a go at skiing or snowboarding. Try snowshoe trekking - hiking through forests, crunching your feet against the fresh snow - and well worth a go. And we haven`t reached the après ski yet! Egypt

There`s many, many more. What about Egypt where climate, history and possibility combine magnificently. Take a trip down the Nile; amaze at the wonder of Cairo with relics of the past on every corner and of course the pyramids.
